I've been lackadaisical and frankly lazy with my personal development in creative writing. After a day of rigid tech-jargon driven press releases and award submissions, it's hard to pick-up a pen and go to town! Throughout the next few weeks, I'll be sprucing up this lovely little web home of mine, and hope you enjoy my little creative nuggets!
Squad goals start here :
1) Each week I pledge to jot down four entries. If Ernest Hemingway can write an award-winning six-word sentence, then I can create a short and meaningful sentence as an entry as well.
2) I'll publish my prompts and writings at least once a week. My entries will be based on experiences and embedded life in the city.
3) Encourage my readers to do the same! Start this journey with me. Give your noodle a workout and get rocking with a pen and paper! I'll publish my prompts for the day on my twitter (@elizabethdowen)!
Simple, but effective! Any takers? I'm going to investigate a few creative writing websites this weekend for writing prompts and ideas!
+++ Prompt No. 1 +++
During our spontaneous writing workshop with Frank Haberle, we were tasked to identify three of our favorite smells. Hastily, each wrote of similar smells, all which evoked far more emotional attachment than what appears surface-level. Mine? The crisp breeze on a fall morning in Indiana.
Prompt: Elaborate on that smell.
The untouched grass and echoes through the forest envelop the senses as you walk through grandmother's woods. The moist ground below your feet -- acorns fallen from seasons past. There is a crisp morning breeze with nods of Uncle Jerry's beans cooking on the bonfire across the pond. A smell of comfort, peace, safety. The smell of home in Indiana.
All the best,
ED
